Holland is one of those places that naturally slows you down in the best way. Between the sandy Lake Michigan shoreline, quiet wooded trails, and wide-open dunes, families don’t feel like they’re “posing for photos”—they’re just together, exploring and enjoying the moment.
Some of my favorite sessions here happen at places like Tunnel Park and Holland State Park, where kids end up barefoot in the sand and parents can actually relax while the sun drops over the water. Making sand castles, splashing in the water, or jumping over waves, there’s something about the lakeshore light here that makes everything feel a little softer and more nostalgic. Holland State Park for the pier and iconic sunset water views.
Tunnel Park for the dunes and beach access without the heavy crowds.

Riley Trails for the beautiful tall trees, and families that want shade and earthy feels.
Hoffmaster State Park. Although this isn’t in Holland, it’s along the lakeshore, and is perfect for the grassy dunes and picture perfect sunsets with a local ice cream shop nearby - Whippi Dip

What to Wear for Your Holland Family Session
I recommend clothing that feels comfortable and allows movement.
Neutral tones, soft textures, and coordinating colors photograph beautifully against Holland’s beaches and natural landscapes.
The location and activity you choose for your session will greatly effect the outfit choice. For example, if you’re making sandcastles with your family, you may want to be in swim suits rather than flowy dresses with a lot of material.

Frequently Asked Questions
When is the best time for family photos in Holland?
Summer and early fall are incredibly popular because of beach access and beautiful evening light where the sunsets are most vibrant. Spring and late fall can also provide gorgeous, less crowded locations.
Do you photograph families at the beach?
Absolutely. Beach sessions are one of my most requested offerings in the Holland area and are especially beautiful at sunset. My favorite is Tunnel Park in Holland, or if you’re not married to the city of Holland, I love Oval Beach in Saugatuck. The at Oval Beach are unmatched, and there’s not much of a walk from the parking lot to the beach! It’s also more accessible if you have a family member in a wheelchair.
What should we wear for a beach session?
Soft neutrals, earth tones, and flowy fabrics photograph beautifully against the sand and water. Unless you’re booking a purely documentary sessions, then swimsuits, towels, and umbrellas are a must! I recommend no neon colors, but earth + dark neutral colored bathing suits will contrast beautifully against the sand while you’re making sand castles or chasing the seagulls!
What if my children don’t cooperate?
That’s completely normal. My sessions are designed around real children and real families. I follow your children’s lead and focus on connection rather than perfect behavior.
How far in advance should we book?
Summer and fall sessions often book several months in advance, so I recommend reaching out early if you have specific dates in mind.
Does I only photograph families in Holland?
